Is XML Replacing EDI?
While XML is growing as a B2B data exchange format, EDI and XML will co-exist in B2B scenarios for some time to come. According to a recent report, "B2B Integration Trends: Message Formats", by Forrester Research, enterprise architects should plan for an infrastructure that supports both. The report recommends adopting a strategy that utilizes the new XML-based alternatives to enhance existing EDI formats. Read the complete report for all the details.
DataDirect XML Converters support of thousands of EDI schemas and flat file types to provide a fast, scalable solution for converting between EDI and other legacy formats and XML. Here’s what our customers tell us:
- TalentLab: “DataDirect XML Converters - It differs from any other approach: it can virtually handle any EDI message, even those which are not known to the converter itself! Secondly, it can be easily be integrated in Java and .NET programs, which suits perfectly in the XI context. And, last but not least, its licensing cost is fair and affordable.”

- Port of Dover: "The XML Converters replace an internally developed EDI translator which was proving impossible to develop to meet the new standards. Together with the XML Converters, the Harbour Board uses DataDirect’s Stylus Studio to create templates for the messages, saving hours of development time."

- Edict Systems: “After redesigning our EDI import and export processes, we found that by using the DataDirect XML EDI Converter engine we were able to significantly reduce the resources necessary for mapping data.
